Since 1837 all births, marriages and deaths have had to be registered centrally. An index to these events was available at the General Record Office, St. Catherine's House, Kingsway, London, but has now moved to new premises. The entries for all Sankeys in these categories is listed by year and quarter, along with the information required to request a certificate by post.
Every effort has been made to maintain accuracy in transcribing these records, however there can be no guarantee that the details shown are correct, and it is strongly recommended that entries are verified before ordering certificates.
Copies of the certificates mentioned in these indexes may be applied for in person, and the certificate may be picked up a few days later, or will be posted to you if you so require. It is also possible to order a certificate by post, but for this the price rises considerably. There are, however, numerous genealogists and record agents who are prepared to order and collect a certificate for a small premium. Refer to advertisments in genealogical publications such as Family Tree magazine for people offering this service.
